Southport and Cape Fear Flounder and Bottom Fish
Left the Snow’s Cut boat ramp at Carolina Beach at 8:00 a.m. to head down the Cape Fear to Southport. Stopped just outside of the Cut to catch bait. It was so thick you could almost walk across it. After a pleasant 30 minute ride we were at Bald Head Island. It ocean was calm, nothing over 2 feet. Fished yaupon reef until one of the members aboard got sick. We were able to pick up a variety of bottom fish including grey trout, croaker, and flounder. We had 3 nice flounder that we didn’t get to land, one over 7 lbs. We headed back in to fish a couple of spots in the Cape Fear for flounder. Fished for about 30 minutes before the other member onboard got sick. We were able to pick up a couple of more flounder before we called it a day.
